you don’t have to keep hurting, alone
Is a lack of motivation or purpose preventing you from living fully and joyfully?
Are feelings of anxiety, stress, or depression so overwhelming that you feel the need to rely upon substances to cope?
Have you experienced deep losses that have left you feeling utterly alone, stuck, and unable to make sense of your life?
Are you a caregiver or professional helper who feels increasingly drained and burned out?
You don’t have to face these challenges alone. Counselling can help and I will walk alongside you as you learn to manage painful emotions, clarify your values and goals, and advance on a journey that brings you greater life satisfaction.
There is hope.
We are all “wired” at birth to be connected, to be in relationship. It is very difficult to overcome life’s challenges alone.
That is why counselling with a skilled psychologist can provide the support you need to help you find your way to a better life.
Even if you’re feeling lost now, I can help you find meaning in your experiences and make positive changes in your life. Individual counselling can help you:
- shift your focus from a limiting view of “what is wrong with me,” to a broader lens that includes your unique strengths, talents and passions
- cultivate your resilience, or ability to handle life’s challenges
- feel more connected to and accepting of yourself and others
I work with my clients to clarify their guiding values and priorities, and to own their potential for growth and development.
While I draw heavily from the field of cognitive-behavioral therapy, I also incorporate mindfulness and other evidence-supported approaches to help you make lasting and desired change.
Together, we will develop effective ways for you to deal with anxiety, depression, grief and other difficult emotions so that you can live the life you were meant to have – a life of meaning and fulfillment.
A Little Bit More About Me
Since receiving my PhD in Counselling Psychology in 1992 I have practiced and learned in a variety of settings, including children’s residential psychiatric treatment programs, inpatient mental health, community mental health, and adult residential treatment for concurrent substance use and mental health disorders.
Teaching is also a passion of mine, so along the way I have been an instructor in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work and Human Service programs.
My experience in treating psychological disorders includes trauma, depression, stress, anxiety, substance abuse disorders, sleep problems, compassion fatigue, moral injury, and grief and loss issues.
I am a Registered Psychologist in British Columbia, a member of the Canadian Psychological Association, British Columbia Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, and the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
Mountains and streams inspire me, and I can also spend hours in the ocean, snorkeling with the fish and following sea turtles. I love gardening. A perfect day is spending time with my family and my spirit animal Clyde (who is available by request for therapy – yours and mine.)
